Free Home Energy Assessment Across the UK

We visit your property to assess your heating, insulation and energy usage — then recommend the best improvements for your home and budget. Completely free, no obligation.

Home energy assessment for a UK property

What Is a Home Energy Assessment?

A home energy assessment is a detailed survey of your property carried out by a member of the Eco Simply team. We look at how your home currently uses energy — your heating system, insulation, hot water, lighting and controls — and identify where improvements could reduce your bills, improve comfort and lower your carbon footprint.

The assessment is the essential first step before any installation. It ensures that our recommendations are based on the specific characteristics of your property, not generic assumptions. Every home across the UK is different, and the right solution for a Victorian terrace in Moseley is not the same as for a 1960s semi in Solihull or a modern detached home in Sutton Coldfield.

Our assessments are always free and carry no obligation. We will never pressure you into a decision during the visit.

What We Assess

During the visit, we evaluate the following aspects of your property:

Your Current Heating System

We look at your existing boiler or heating system — its age, type, efficiency rating and condition. If your boiler is over 10 to 15 years old or has become unreliable, we may recommend a new energy-efficient boiler or an air source heat pump depending on your property's suitability.

Heating Controls

We check what controls you have in place — thermostat, programmer, thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) and any smart controls. Many UK homes still have basic or outdated controls that waste energy by heating rooms unnecessarily. Upgrading to smart heating controls is often one of the most cost-effective improvements we can recommend.

Insulation

We assess your loft insulation, wall construction (cavity or solid), window glazing and any areas where heat may be escaping. Good insulation is the foundation of an energy-efficient home. It makes every heating system — whether a boiler or a heat pump — work more effectively and reduces the energy needed to keep your home comfortable.

Roof and Solar Potential

If you are interested in solar PV, we survey your roof orientation, pitch, available space and any shading from trees or neighbouring buildings. We also assess whether battery storage would benefit your household based on your energy usage patterns.

Outdoor Space

For heat pump installations, we check available outdoor space for the external unit. We consider noise regulations, distance from boundaries and the most practical location for pipework routing. Many UK homes have sufficient space — even terraced properties can often accommodate a heat pump with the right planning.

Energy Bills and Usage

We discuss your current energy costs, how you use your home throughout the day and any specific concerns you have. This helps us understand where the greatest savings opportunities lie and which improvements will have the most impact for your situation.

EPC Rating

If you have an Energy Performance Certificate, we review it as part of the assessment. Your EPC rating affects eligibility for certain grants — for example, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme requires a valid EPC, and often prioritises homes with low ratings (E, F or G). If you do not have an EPC, we can advise on how to obtain one.

What Happens After the Assessment

Following the home visit, we provide:

  • A clear written quote with our recommended improvements, itemised costs and expected timelines
  • Grant eligibility guidance — we explain which schemes you may qualify for, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme or Warm Homes Local Grant
  • Energy saving estimates — where possible, we provide an indication of the potential bill savings from the recommended improvements
  • No pressure — there is no obligation to proceed. We give you the information you need to make an informed decision in your own time

Who Should Book a Home Energy Assessment?

A free assessment is suitable for any homeowner anywhere in the UK who:

  • Has high energy bills and wants to understand what is causing them

  • Wants to check whether they may be eligible for government energy grants
  • Has an older property that may benefit from insulation or heating upgrades
  • Is planning home renovations and wants to include energy improvements
  • Simply wants expert advice on the best way to make their home more energy efficient

Why Start with an Assessment?

Many homeowners research energy improvements online but find it difficult to know what is right for their specific property. A home energy assessment removes the guesswork. Instead of comparing generic information, you get tailored advice from someone who has seen your home, understands your heating system and knows the housing stock in your area.

An assessment also ensures that any grant applications are based on accurate property information, which can speed up the process and avoid delays. For the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in particular, an accurate assessment of your current heating system and property details is essential before a grant application can be submitted.
